DISTek to Present at Embedded Systems Conference in Minneapolis

On Thursday, November 1, 2018, at 11:00 AM, DISTek will be giving a 45 minute presentation entitled: The Functional Safety in Autonomous Vehicles Is Not an Afterthought, at the Embedded Systems Conference (ESC 2018), held at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The topic is based on the observation that sometimes manufacturers find themselves having to backtrack in getting an existing product Functional Safety certifiable. The problem arises because Functional Safety practices were not implemented during a product’s initial development, and at some future point in time, the product must then be Functional Safety compliment due to an expansion in marketing, and/or due to safety regulations that have been put in place. A manufacturer may then be forced to backtrack, perform the proper hazard and risk assessments, and potentially have to modify portions, if not all, of the product’s original design and implementation. This can be very costly and time consuming. DISTek, recognizing this dilemma, has been integrating Functional Safety practices into its existing development processes, so that products developed for our customers will have Functional Safety requirements and documentation in place during the product’s initial development. This greatly minimizes the amount of work needed in a backtracking scenario. The ESC presentation will discuss the backtracking scenario and suggest ways to avoid it, as well as present suggestions for integrating Functional Safety practices into an existing agile methodology. All are welcomed to attend.  Hope to see you there!
